What's Actually Happening

Logs are not reaching their destination. Fluentd is dropping or failing to forward log entries.

The Error You'll See

bash
# Fluentd logs:
[warn]: buffer has many chunks
[error]: failed to flush the buffer

Why This Happens

  1. 1.Buffer overflow - Buffer capacity exceeded
  2. 2.Output failure - Destination unreachable
  3. 3.Memory limit - Buffer memory exhausted
  4. 4.Network issues - Connection to destination failed

Step 1: Check Buffer Status

```bash # Check buffer directory: ls -la /var/log/fluentd/buffer/
# Check buffer size: du -sh /var/log/fluentd/buffer/ ```
Step 2: Fix Buffer Configuration
xml
<match **>
  @type elasticsearch
  buffer_type file
  buffer_path /var/log/fluentd/buffer
  buffer_chunk_limit 8MB
  buffer_queue_limit 256
  flush_interval 10s
  retry_wait 30s
  retry_limit 17
</match>
Step 3: Check Output Errors
```bash # Check Fluentd logs: tail -f /var/log/fluentd/fluent.log

# Test destination: curl -I http://elasticsearch:9200 ```

Fluentd Log Checklist

CheckLocationExpected
Buffer sizebuffer dirWithin limit
Outputfluent.logNo errors
Destinationcurl testReachable

Verify the Fix

bash
# Logs appear in destination
# No buffer warnings in fluent.log
